We are hiring! Climate Adaptation Project Assistant

The BRBC is hiring a Climate Adaptation Project Assistant through the University of Alberta Adaptation and Resilience Training Program. This is an eight month term beginning in September 2024, open to all current students and recent graduates.

We are looking for a project assistant to conduct a basin-wide inventory map of climate risks and vulnerabilities, in collaboration with partners across the Bow Basin. This mapping exercise will be used in the online State of the Watershed report (integrating in using ArcGIS Online Experience Builder), and inform the next phase of a basin-wide climate adaptation plan.

Tasks performed may include (although are not limited to) the following:

  • Conduct an initial literature review and data scan to understand methods for climate risk mapping, work already done by BRBC partners, and spatial datasets that are available to use in the analysis.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the watershed, both BRBC members and new partners (relationship building) to ensure all perspectives are captured.

  • Work with a sub-committee of topic experts to ensure variables used in the analysis adequately reflect the associated climate risks.

  • Use ArcGIS Pro and Online to conduct the risk assessment mapping and integrate into ArcGIS Online Experience Builder (BRBC SOW).

  • Solicit feedback on mapping results from experts.

  • Inform educational materials using mapping results.

  • Host a workshop (or series of workshops) to gather feedback on results and to inform analysis at the start.
