Watershed Management Planning

2012
Bow Basin Watershed Management Plan

A key function of the BRBC is to undertake a Watershed Management Planning process, informed by the State of the Watershed report. The most recent Bow Basin Watershed Management Plan (BBWMP) was completed in 2012 and continues to provide guidance and recommendations to decision-making authorities, municipalities, natural resource managers, users and residents regarding land and water resources in the watershed.

To help ensure that agencies and jurisdictions are working in a coordinated manner, the outcomes contained within the BBWMP were developed in alignment with the outcomes identified by other planning initiatives, including the report, Advice to the Government of Alberta for the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan (updated 2011).

South Saskatchewan River Basin Water Management Plan 10-Year Review

The South Saskatchewan River Basin Water Management Plan (SSRP WMP) was an Alberta Government initiative to balance water consumption and environmental protection, in light of economic and social objectives.

A review of the SSRB WMP was led by the BRBC in 2017 to assess its implementation in the four SSRB sub-basins (Bow, Oldman, Red Deer, and South Saskatchewan basins) using available data and information:

  • Assess progress against WMP intended outcomes based on best available data.

  • Identify information gaps and opportunities.

  • Summarize what the Plan has accomplished since it was implemented in achieving its anticipated outcomes, and what further can be done.

The report included detailed appendices.
